Eucalyptus gunnii, ‘Silverdrop’

I have bought Eucalyptus plants – seedlings before and this year I am going to have a go at growing from seed – apparently very difficult – so I am not holding too much hope as my germinating rates with even the easiest seed is ‘interesting’ .

I bought my seeds from Chiltern Seed – again because I was putting in an order from them at the time – these are generally reasonably expensive you get 16 seeds in a pack – however to buy a tree is way more so going to see how I go…

So yesterday 14/03/21 I dared to check these babies as said germination rate is supposed to be poor and I really would like some from seed – so decided to wing it and give it a whirl… and happy mothers day to me 3 of 6 have taken so far… lets see what happens (I think I put these out / in – as in damp kitchen roll in a plastic zip lock on 06/03/2021 -tbh though my dating is leaving rather a lot to be desired…) – from these 6 seeds I had 3 germinate and I have lost 1 so I actually have 2 small but looking good babies…

I have 5 more growing – they are tiny seedlings and I will need to be super careful with them until they are bigger but oh I am so happy – I don’t actually remember when these were sown – they were just put on top of the jiffy coir pods – I seem to think – With this batch I think I planted 6 and this time 5 have germinated so my total is 7 – I am beyond happy.
