Dahlia Order

All the pictures of Dahlias are ones that I ordered in a crazy mad shopping spree (retail therapy) – by the time I ordered them it was basically the end of ordering season so we will see how they are… the prices were just too good to walk click past and I went and bought too many for me really. Anyway scroll down to see what I ordered and I will hopefully photograph some of my own as and when they flower and see how they turn out.

Dahlia Tuber

The above 2 photos are how the tubers arrived – some are smaller and some bigger… they all have an eye which is great 🙂 (the eye is the purple bit which now actually resembles new growth) In theory they should therefore flower, we will see…

I have a love hate relationship with Dahlias – they are beautiful flowers they really are but regardless of what some say I find them Diva-ish. They are extremely popular among lots of flower growers… I am not sure yet how popular they are with flower purchasers for in bunches / cut flowers we will see what my audience think of them.

I have had dahlia plants in the past when initially totally mesmerised by Floret Flowers I really love watching their journey via the website and IG . My Plants were a disaster to be honest – lots didn’t flower it was as if the rain got into the buds while they were small and they just were like mushy. I then left them in the pots and in a shed – to be honest this seemed fine they over wintered and come spouting time did their thing – I then didn’t do my thing and it was all a disaster – let just leave it with the following year the frost and rain got to the tubers – yup MUSH!

So we will see how these do they are going into the allotment therefore

I WILL DIG THEM UP

come late autumn early winter – well before the frosts come that is for sure.

I have a few growing in pots that I grew last year from seed that someone gifted me – I dug them up and scrubbed them down and put them in a box in the garage over winter and I almost forgot to rescue them – however I just did last week and popped them into pots and the shoots that were looking ummmm very very sad without much promise left seem to have perked up and fingers crossed, we will see what happens.
