Corms,  Planting

Anemones and Ranunculus

I sowed these in the Autumn / winter… – 6th / 7th November 2020

They were doing ok… I had a few near casualties and ICU moments but I think I saved most of them – but we are not 100% until we actually get flowers.

corms just into the water to soak
Ranunculs literally just in the water before swelling

They come sort of dormant and dried – shrived looking – lots of advise is to put in water – running water for 3 hours plus… I don’t as this seems like a lot of water and I don’t have a system rigged up that could circulate the water. So I change the water and make sure they are in a fairly big-ish bowl – plenty of room to swell.

re-hydrating and swelling nicely
oh yeah lovely and hydrated and ready to go

I have planted lots of different ones

Anenomes turn
No idea it was from 2020 corm I planted before I started document things a bit better

So Anemones I have planted… The Bride, De Caen, Vinato, Colour Mix, again I followed Swan Cottage Flowers video advice (go to their Instagram page and see stories) and I can’t praise them enough – they are my go to – but honestly there really are so many out there – some charge EG offer courses for info some its all for free usually on their website or Youtube or social media – your choice.

I am starting my spring sowing of these BUT I have lots… and I have added to Swan Cottage Flowers with some FarmerGracy as I just couldn’t help myself while ordering stuff from them as well – they also have great video tutorials.

I also have corms from JParker and really enjoy watching their video tutorials

Generally I soak corms and then plant Anenomes they say have 2 sides a flatter side and a more nobbly side (I find it very difficult to tell the difference to be honest) but if you can smoother side facing downwards – nobbly side upwards.

Soak to re-hydrate

Bright location – Don’t keep too warm to get going as this will send them into hibernation – not encourage them to sprout…

Out in the ground – 20cm – 25cm apart (22 cms is perfect! :))

5 Lt = 1

10 Lt = 2

15 Lt =3
