    Ideas For Planting Biennials 22

Pencilled in to my seed planting diary June 21st Summer Solstice – Biennials are sown usually end of June-ish and should flower the following year. I am going to try sowing these in the soil blockers and Lupins I just love Lupins and I have too many seeds already really but I am going to order more – what is they say to plant a seed is to believe in tomorrow… So I have PinkFairy Sunrise (these are annual so I will not sow these now but spring to flower in the summer) I am going to order and sow in June The Governor (Navy Blue) Mixture of all the…

    Mid May Thoughts

I am playing catch up BIG TIME – I didn’t autumn sow this year/last year… 2021 because my Autumn sow 2020 left me feeling huge over whelm both while sowing and then in the spring when supposed to be ‘bumping up‘ most of the negative feelings came from the house move we had to do – it wasn’t my choice and really wasn’t a happy experience. So Autumn 2021 the decision was made not to autumn sow – I purchased seeds and basically got myself somewhat ready for an Amazing spring sow – with the idea of succession sowing – limited seeds / flowers not in numbers as in plant…

    Tulips

Autumn 2020 I bought a fair few bulbs – Tulips are one of my very very favourite flower I just adore all stages of them. It was the first year that I actually ordered any particular ones – previously I have bought bags from the garden centres and never really considered types or colours. 2020 I changed my mind and poured over the catalogues and order certain ones – you can see what I ordered and read about it here and also part 2. After disappointment and just generally feeling meh about growing them I decided this year (21-22) I would just see what happened to the ones that I…

    June Bunches

The first post I did for this in April was called Bouquet Practice I am going to change the name to Bunches as Bouquet sounds a little grand for what I am doing and I love the name posies but not sure that’s generic enough – I also like the word fafferie so may call it June Fafferie – July Fafferie – And I may add Faerie to the end so it would be June Fafferie Faerie – I don’t know I like both of those to be honest like a monthly update…? Anyway the faffing with the flowers is back on… Friday 4 June saw my first bunch of…

    Tulip Bulbs part 2

If you have read part 1 you maybe like – confused as it was all doom and gloom for the Tulips – they were a train wreck… I didn’t know why really BUT then… again I don’t really know why, but then BAM tulips so… I am going to share some cutting and storing tips I have picked up… Tips for cutting and storing If you want to store bulbs for next year you need to leave 2 leaves on the stem when you cut (profession tulip growers will pull up bulb and cut at the base of the bulb – then composting the bulb). If you want longest flower…

    Sweet Peas

I think I have a love hate relationship with these… I adore them but boy I personally don’t find them easy to grow… they need attention they are not something you can kind of just chuck in and let them get on with it – in my experience anyway. I am all for planting seeds – I love it – but these are very cheap to buy from your local garden centre / nursery if you just want a bucket – like seriously £2.00 for 10… – local supermarket probably does them in a cute bucket!!! – however if you want oooooddddles or if you want a specific variety or…

    Lupins

Lupins – total love (lolz everything on here at the moment is total love..) I grew these for the first time in 2019 as my mother wanted to do some amazing display buckets for my brother and his now wife’s wedding day. I didn’t grow them from seed – I picked up a few from one of our local garden nurseries while they were seedlings or just past and they grew into gorgeous – and they were gorgeous plants / flowers – I grew them in pots and kept them in pots… they have come back every year since (mum told me she could never keep them in the garden…

    Bouquet Practice – April

So bouquets… posies… or just random cutting from the garden… I am not sure but… at the moment I tend to let fear of my arrangements looking pretty dreadful stop me from just having a go – so since this month is BOSSING it month I’m going to start this… I am hoping to do lots as practice makes perfection– nah – I mean what does perfection even mean…? So practice brings improvement and hopefully will help me try different things and help develop different styles Above is a random bunch of flowers – well I guess technically foliage? Cut from my garden 03/04/21 – they are growing in the…

I have never grown phlox before – I mean there is plenty of seeds I have never sown or plants I have grown until this year 2020 /2021 but a lot I have bought as flowers part of bouquet but not sure about these babies – BUT in following so many flower people over on insta I thought meh why not lets give them ago… I ordered mine from Chiltern Seeds I chose 2 packets both mix packets to give myself a taste of what I might like for the future. So I have Birds of a Feather – they should be Creme Brulee Cherry Caramel Isabellina And Phlox of…
