Birthday Rose

November is my birthday month- I have decided to try to start a new tradition since this gardening malarkey seems to be taking hold of my life 🙂 so this year I asked my children if they would buy me a bare root rose – I chose the one I wanted and where I wanted it from and even gave them a discount code that I had… (who knew that this time of year is IDEAL for ordering and planting bare root roses!)

Rose – Roald Dahl Shrub Rose from David Austin

It fits/ticks every box that I needed for a rose in a particular area. I also decided that I would like to plant it (permanently) in a pot so himself said he would get that for me so off I popped and chose the pot I wanted. Birthday gifts to me sorted 🙂 x

I have now planted it up after following the instructions – fingers crossed it does well…

  • On a side note I will share with you a personal message that a Marie Curie Nurse (her name was Bernadette) who I was particularly close to during the last few months of my dads life shared with me and I will always remember it – my dad was going to / had a green burial – they have a tree planted on or near them – you don’t or didn’t at the time chose the tree it was allocated by the burial ground – we were just generally chatting about things etc… and she shared that her mum who had died several years previous and had a tree had actually had several trees as they kept dying and she wanted to share and make me aware that just if the tree died it wasn’t a reflection on anything and not to get upset – just to have a good talking to him and get yet another tree – Excellent Advice – something I would love to share xx

Rose Update – 5 ish weeks later – 28/12/21 and the Rose appears to be doing well – it has little buds / shoots forming (which I have no idea if this is a good thing but hey its making me feel like it is a good thing). I have it up on a chair so the B+$%*y Dog can’t cock his leg on it!!! and it is actually on a South facing wall with the hope that it will get more light at this time of the year – as although the North facing wall it is planned to go on is very sheltered from the yucky weather during these darkest days of the year gets virtually no light at all… doesn’t seem to bother the plants that are there but…
