I am going to share some cutting and storing tips I have picked up…
Tips for cutting and storing
- If you want to store bulbs for next year you need to leave 2 leaves on the stem when you cut (profession tulip growers will pull up bulb and cut at the base of the bulb – then composting the bulb).
- If you want longest flower stem you need to cut from base literally just above the actual bulb – then throw out the bulb as it won’t flower again – tulips are divas for re-flowering you can’t predict they will flower even if you do this – or the quality of the flower
- For best vase life you need to pick early just as colour is showing
- They can/do (probably best to experiment yourself for accurate results) continue to grow in the water so many advise put them a little further down in display if giving away
Disclaimer – these are tips I have learnt and picked up from friends and online. If you have any advise you would like to share please feel free to message me or leave a comment below.
