Phlox ’21
I have never grown phlox before – I mean there is plenty of seeds I have never sown or plants I have grown until this year 2020 /2021 but a lot I have bought as flowers part of bouquet but not sure about these babies – BUT in following so many flower people over on insta I thought meh why not lets give them ago…
I ordered mine from Chiltern Seeds I chose 2 packets both mix packets to give myself a taste of what I might like for the future.
So I have Birds of a Feather – they should be
- Creme Brulee
- Cherry Caramel
- Isabellina
And
Phlox of Sheep – they should be colour combinations – soft pastel shades and bicolours it what they say…
- cream
- orange
- yellow
- pink and
- white – shades and bicolours it what they say
So they need sowing in the dark and they need bottom heat Swan Cottage Flowers has as usual fab video / stories on her insta account (if you don’t know already they are totally my go to help…) – I have to admit though to putting mine into the airing cupboard – this is NOT A RECOMMENDATION it has lots of issues…
- Your family complain about you taking over ANOTHER place in the house with your seed babies!!!
- You can forget about them and then they are all dried out…
I sow my seeds onto these Jiffy pods and then put a number of pods into the airing cupboard and then remove the individual pod as they germinate… I am obsessive with checking the airing cupboard I have to admit and I have taken over a shelf ..
General Information
- Good for containers – 1-2 foot spread
- Need good drainage – or can rot at root
- May need fertilizer if in pots but maybe not so much in ground
They actually turned out better than I thought and although I didn’t like them to begin with – they did kind of grow on be in the end.
On a side note – I didn’t publish this last year… IDK why So I am posting this retrospectively…
